Pieter van der Sandt was born in Molteno. They were a family of four, (two brothers and two

at a young age when all four his children were very young. Maria
re-married Abraham Winnaar from Elliot and moved there.
The children got married and moved to different places.
Pieter moved to Ugie, Johanna to Komga, Laura to Ugie and Johannes stayed in Elliot for most
of his adulthood.
The family of Pieter (Piet) van der Sandt
Pieter married my mom, Ivy and they had seven children, 4 daughters and 3 sons. They
started the Dutch Reformed Church in the then coloured community and I remember how my Dad, on Sundays,
used to conduct Services and Sunday school classes.
If I think back of our childhood, that is where our ministry started because we are all
actively serving the Lord.
My parents started a trading store in Umga Road where my mom managed the business, while Dad
worked as a motor mechanic and welder for Shorten Motors.
We attended primary school at Ugie Methodist Primary School and went to Queenstown and Cradock
for our high School education. We moved to Kimberley in 1977 to further our education and to specialize in
our careers.
My youngest brother (Tally) passed away in
1977. After retiring my parents moved to East London to live with
my husband and I. My eldest sister, Pedro passed away in Kimberley in 1994. My eldest
brother, Albert moved to East London, where he passed away in 1996. My mom passed away in November
1999, my Dad passed away in October 2008. I have a brother Pieter (Junior) living in Kimberley and so
is my sister Ria, Yvette and I are living in East London.
The family of Johannes (Koos) van der
Sandt
My dad’s brother, Johannes was married to Freda Springfield who was originally from East
London, they had four children, namely; Cathrine, Johan, Hazel and Daniel. Cathrine married Clifton van
Staaden, Johan married Mathilda Winlock, Hazel married Trevor Myburgh and Daniel married Glenadene Winlock.
Johannes was working in Elliot for 16 year then worked on a farm between Elliot and Ugie he moved
to a farm outside Ugie, near the station, called Cape Eastern Meat Co. and then worked by Shorten Motors for
a short while. He bought a plot in Ugie where he built his own house. His wife then passed away in 1991.
Johannes himself passed away in 1996, his youngest son Daniel (Danie) and his family is currently living in
the family house.
