NEL & KOEKEMOER FAMILY

The first NELS that moved to Kapaailand came from the Venterstad district and settled during 1879 on the farm Taynuilt in the Elliot district. Three of their grandsons moved to the Ugie area. The first KOEKEMOERS moved from the Queenstown district and settled during 1882 on the farm Stanford’s Grove on the Nqaqala River near Ugie. This farm was incorporated during 1890 in the Tsolo district. The three NEL families that moved to the Ugie area were the following : 

A. NEL, Francois Johannes Gerhardus

    KOEKEMOER, Hyla Magdalena   

    Born 17. 09. 1902 

    Died :24. 06. 1994 

    Married : 20. 04. 1920 

From 1949 till 1969 they stayed at the farm Many Vales Consolidated Nr. 2 known as Arbeidsgenot near Ugie on the road to Maclear.

     MARCHAND born W  ASSERMAN, Dalina

    Born 09. 05. 1927.[still alive] of the Morgenster  Mission, Zimbabwe.

Spent their honeymoon at Luderitz, Namibia. After  their marriage both of them worked at die Children’s Haven M.T.R.Smit at  Ugie. During that period they were the house parents at Drakensig where  the high school boys were housed.

B. NEL, Stephanus Jesaja

    Married to MULLER, Susanna Maria Francina 

    Children : 1. Hester  2. Diederik and 3. Elizabeth.

They stayed on the farm Glenelg in Wildebeeshoek near Ugie..   All of them already deceased. 

C. NEL, Daniël Johannes Hendrik

    Born 13. 06. 1902 

    Married to NEL, Martha Maria 

    Children : 1. Aletta 2. Elizabeth 3. Diederik and

                   4. Francois. 

Before retirement they stayed at the farm Experiment [portion of Entwanazana between Ugie and Xuka Drift. 

All of them already deceased. 

The last of the NEL families who stayed in the Ugie area was Diederik and his wife Dalina [of Family B] at the farm Glenelg.
